Migraine headache prevention is intended to reduce the suffering and disability associated with attacks. One method of prevention involves using a dental device to help reduce the intensity and the amount of jaw muscle activity. One particular device that has received attention recently is called the NTI-tss (Nociceptive Trigeminal Inhibition-tension suppression system).
The NTI is a prefabricated device that covers the
upper four front teeth. It is sold to dentists in a kit form, and the
dentist then fits it to the individual patient’s teeth. It is similar
to other dental devices that have been used since the 1950s.
There is some evidence that this device can be effective for treating
migraines when used in the right circumstances. The research quoted
shows that the NTI-tss device is at least as effective in reducing
the incidence of migraine as some other commonly used intraoral devices
that have been tested.
